Delete your Scoutyx account
This page explains how to delete your account in Scoutyx, the app published by Scoutyx B.V., and what happens to your data when you do. You can delete from the app or, if you no longer have it, from this page.
Delete from the app
- Open Scoutyx and go to the Profile tab.
- Tap Delete account (in the Account section).
- Read what is deleted and what is kept, then confirm it is you — with your password, or with Sign in with Apple or Google.
- Tap Delete my account.
This works the same for athletes, scouts and organisations.
Delete without the app
Enter the email address of the account and we will send you a deletion link. Nothing is deleted when you ask for the link, and nothing is deleted when you open it: the account is only deleted when you open the link and press the confirm button on the page it takes you to.
What happens and when
- Immediately: your account is closed. You can no longer sign in, your profile disappears from search, Athene and scout results, and every session on every device is ended.
- Within 30 days: your personal data is permanently erased. This normally happens after 7 days. During those days only our support team can stop it — for example, if someone else took over your account and deleted it.
Safety hold: if reports about the account were already open when you asked, or our moderators had flagged or suspended it, the account is still erased on the normal schedule. Only the reported messages or content, the reports themselves and the minimum details needed to act on them (email address, name, account type) are kept in restricted storage that only our administrators can open, for 90 days — longer only if an administrator records a written reason — and then deleted. Reports other people make after you asked do not keep anything. For a child's account that the law requires us to erase, only the reported item and the report are kept, with no personal details.
What is deleted
- Your profile and account details.
- Your photos and videos, including check-in photos and your intro video.
- Your posts, stories, comments and likes.
- Your follows and friends.
- Your stats, milestones and endorsements.
- Scout notes and reports written about you.
- Links to you in other people's saved Athene chats.
- Messages you sent. They are replaced by "[deleted]" and shown as from "Deleted user"; the other person keeps their own messages.
- Your saved Athene chats.
- Your notifications, push notification tokens and sessions.
We also delete the data that service providers hold for us:
- your saved customer profile and payment methods at Stripe (Stripe keeps the payment records it is legally required to);
- your identity-verification images at Stripe — we ask Stripe to redact them, and if a redaction cannot be confirmed (for example on a Stripe account we no longer use), our team follows it up with Stripe;
- your in-app purchase profile at RevenueCat;
- your analytics profile and events at PostHog;
- your waitlist entry at MailerLite.
What we keep, why, and for how long
A few records outlive the account, because the law or child safety requires it.
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Billing records (invoices, payments, subscription history, and the reference of an identity-verification payment) | Why: Tax and accounting law | How long: 7 years |
| Reports other users made about the account | Why: Child safety — so repeated abuse can still be recognised | How long: 1 year |
| For an account a parent or guardian approved: the record of that consent | Why: Proof that consent was given | How long: 3 years (at least 1 year), then anonymised |
| Your marketing opt-in and opt-out choices | Why: Proof that marketing we sent was lawful, and that you opted out | How long: 3 years |
| Reports you made about other users | Why: Child safety — a report does not disappear because its author left | How long: Unchanged until the report is resolved; after that without your name or your words, as part of the reported account's moderation history |
| Safety hold: content that was reported before you asked, the reports, and the minimum details to act on them | Why: Evidence for a safety review | How long: 90 days, longer only with a written reason from an administrator |
| If our team read one of your saved Athene chats during a moderation case: the record of that read (who read it, when, which part and why), not the chat itself | Why: Accountability for staff access to saved chats | How long: 2 years from the read |
| If you are a parent or guardian: your email address on your child's consent record | Why: It is the legal basis of your child's account | How long: While your child's account exists |
| An anonymous placeholder: account type, birth year and dates — no name or contact details | Why: Conversations other people keep show "Deleted user", and billing, consent and deletion records refer to it | How long: Indefinitely — it holds no name or contact details |
| The record that you asked for deletion and when it was done (no name or email) | Why: Proof that we honoured the request | How long: 3 years |
| Server logs and backups | Why: Security and recovery | How long: Up to 30 days (logs), 30 days (database backups) and 90 days (backups of photos and videos), overwritten on rotation |
| Payments and purchases held by Stripe and by the app store you downloaded Scoutyx from | Why: Their own legal obligations | How long: Set by each company under its own policy |
Subscriptions
Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription bought through the app store you downloaded Scoutyx from. Cancel it yourself first, or the store keeps charging you:
On Android: Google Play subscriptions
A subscription bought on scoutyx.com stops renewing automatically.
Signed in with Apple?
Deleting your account in the app also revokes Scoutyx's access to your Apple ID. If you delete on the web, you can also remove Scoutyx yourself on your iPhone under Settings → [your name] → Sign-In & Security → Sign in with Apple.
Delete only some of your data
- Photos and videos can be removed one by one in the app, or all at once from Profile → Delete account → Delete only my photos and videos.
- Scouts and organisations: in a version of the app with an Athene chat history, your Athene chats are saved to your account. You can delete them one by one from that chat history, or all at once there or in Profile → Settings → Privacy. Turning AI features off also deletes them.
- Athletes (and scouts and organisations on an older version of the app): Athene conversations are stored only on your phone and are cleared when you log out.
- For anything else, email support@scoutyx.com.
Parents and guardians
If you approved a child's account (under 16), choose "I am the parent or guardian who approved a child's account" in the form above and enter the address you used when you gave consent. You get one link for each child.
Once the child turns 16 they manage their own account, and they must delete it themselves.
